- Population has quadrupled since 1900 but the number of churches has increased only by 50%
- Churches are dying regularly
- 4,000 Church Plants Every Year
- 3,700 Churches Shut Down
- 300 Net Gain
-
- Younger adults are disproportionately found in new congregations.
-
-
- Traditions are more suited for the older generation.
-
- Newer congregations reach new residents better.
-
-
- More opportunity for serving and leadership than in an older church.
-
- New Churches are better at reaching Unique Social Groups
-
-
- Minorities, immigrants, internationals, and particular work forces (either blue collar or white collar) often find it hard to fit into the formed culture of an existing churches.
-
- New Churches reach New Worshipers
-
- Dozens of studies confirm that the average new church gains most of its new members (60-80%) from the ranks of people who are not attending any worshiping body
- Churches over 10-15 years of age gain 80 90% of new members by transfer from other congregations.
- The average new congregation will bring in 6‐8 times more new believers than an older body of the same size.
- Most of the resources of a church plant are targeted toward unchurched people rather than pleasing the church constituency.
“The single greatest evangelistic methodology under heaven is the planting of new churches.” ~ Peter Wagner
